Time, Timing and Randomness of events…

Anthony Ryb

I have written about this a number of times and will likely continue to as it is something that continues to spark my curiosity and wonderment.

This is about the Timing of things/events.

Whilst looking through my window a few days ago, it occurred to me watching the storms, winds and heavy rain coming down and noticing people walking / running in it, getting soaked….and then, how 30 minutes later after it had passed and the sun was bright and shining and then10 minutes after this the ground was dry and you wouldn’t even know a storm had been.

Similarly this weekend when I went for an early walk and noticed all the cars were frosted over and the roads quite icy. If you were someone that needed to make a journey you’d have spent time scraping the ice off the windows on the vehicle or sitting and waiting for the car to warm up. An hour later the ice was gone from most of the cars.

I think of those people who were caught in the rain storms and got soaked and had they known / waited or simply been out 30 minutes later their experience would have been so different. Likewise for someone driving their car an hour later.

TIME and TIMING.

On a more sombre note watching the recent wildfires in California and noticing how randomly the odd property was spared whilst those on all sides were burnt down.

Is this luck or is it merely timing? Are we supposed to question it, accept it or go with it?

We rarely question when things work in our favour although I know that I have often reflected when I have been lucky and thought ‘phew, that worked out well or in my favour’. When things don’t work out we can be full of angst, frustration, anger, bewilderment and other emotional feelings.

I see this with Fertility. The randomness once again of how some can fall pregnant and easily, some can have multiple children, for some IVF will work and for others no matter how many times, how much effort or whatever they do it doesn’t work out.

I wish I had the answer to the why, why not and randomness of it all. Until I do, what I can provide is a safe space for whoever is in front of me to share, vent, question, be listened to and heard.

Sometimes in life really awful things happen and sometimes amazing beauty shines through. We would all prefer one over the other and I guess it is how we mange ‘the other’ and who we allow into our lives to share the struggle with us.

Give a thought to when you last supported someone, what did you do and what impact has it had (for you and them)? Also give thought to some of the amazing random things that have appeared in your life….
