Focus and Awareness...

Happy New Year!

I am always aware with the transition into a new year how for some there is a great degree of hope for [better] change, for others they want more of the same and quite often I meet people who don’t see any difference, knowing that each year will simply deliver a mix of everything.

Whatever your belief, it occurred to me this morning whilst going out into the frosty streets that we can learn a lot from walking uphill or on any slippery surfaces!

As I took my first steps I appreciated that I will need to ‘tread carefully’ and ‘take more time’ today. I would lower my centre of gravity, I was aware that I may fall or need to fall, I walked with much more focus, awareness and cation.

There was a beautiful sunrise and whilst I would ordinarily take it in whilst walking, today I made a decision to stop and absorb it.

The walk made me consider that sometimes we may need to change directions or find a new path, we may need to take things a bit more slowly or consider our options. We might also need to cancel, alter or amend plans.

The biggest reflection for me from this morning was how wonderful it was to slow things down, take time to focus, pay attention and increase awareness of my body and environment.

So maybe this learning is something I can take with me further into this month / year ahead to remind myself that when things start to speed up, it may be helpful to slow down.

What learning will you be taking into this year?
